If you’re anything like me, you love a good plan and strategy – especially one that provides you with real results.

As a Virtual Assistant, I have developed my fair share of strategies for both myself and my clients too, ranging from; email marketing, online events, blogs and of course social media!

Social media has become one of the best ways to market your business with billions of people using apps such as Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn on a daily basis. However, over 45% of entrepreneurs do not have a clear social media strategy for their business – mind blowing right?!

But that’s about to change as today, I will guide you through the five key areas you should include within your social media strategy to attract clients and convert sales. Step One: Content

Obviously, the first place to start with your social media strategy is your content!

Whether it’s main feed posts, Instagram reels or Facebook lives – the key to online success is ensuring you’re posting high quality content consistently* for those who have followed you for your expertise and services. (*consistency differs from person to person, one business may post five times a week while the other only two. It’s about finding a figure you can manage and maintain)

To support with the creation of your social media posts, here are five foundational content pillars that will create diversity within your social feed;

Pillar 1, Educational: Provides your followers with valuable knowledge, while also placing you as the expert in your industry Pillar 2, Personal: Showcases more about you, your values, your interests and beliefs so that your audience can connect with you on a deeper level. Pillar 3, Entertainment: Fun content that drives conversation and is easy for your followers to consume. Pillar 4, Social Proof: Showcases your services and client experience to build interest & appeal surrounding your services for potential clients. Pillar 5, Sales: Establishing for your followers what you offer, the benefits your service brings and how they can get started in working with you.

Having this content foundation in place will help you form social media posts which you can track and monitor the success of by using your post insights. These insights will help you to develop your strategy overtime as you’ll be able to identify the best performing posts and feature similar content within your strategy to gain a consistent stream of online interactions and leads. Step Two: Engagement

Just imagine your social feed full of high quality content; you’re getting a regular flow of likes, follows and comments but you want even more for your content. How do you do this? Well, you need to engage!

Online engagement is the process of interacting with your audience or ideal clients with likes, comments and follows. By making the first move and interacting with both of these parties, you can drive traffic to your social media accounts which will increase many areas of your overall profile.

There’s no denying that we all enjoy receiving more likes and follows, but online engagement can do way more for your business! Taking time out to interact with your audience daily can allow you to develop and build connections with your followers which is key to converting sales and makes this stage vital in your strategy.

Visibility is an integral part to your strategy when marketing your business online. Yes, online engagement will help you to get your business seen by your ideal clients but the best conversions come from when you show up online. You are the biggest, and most unique, selling point within your business! Showing up online for your potential clients adds a personal touch to your business and will humanise your brand, making it easier for your followers to resonate and connect with you.

But how can you show up online? Well, you could; ∙ Share a selfie and introduce yourself in your main social feed. ∙ Show up on stories to share behind the scenes insight. ∙ Send voice notes so that people can connect with your tone of voice.

Over time, your confidence in being visible online will increase and your social media strategy will develop too as you adapt into other online features such as live video. Step Four: Branding

From personal brand to business branding, it’s important that you make sure your brand foundations are present throughout your social media profiles.

Yes, you can become the face of your business but new followers (and even old ones) need to be reminded of what you and your brand stand for – especially if you want to secure those sales online.

Make sure it’s clear on your profile; what you do, who you do it for, how you do it, why you do it and what makes you different.

You can track the success of this area of your strategy by monitoring how often you share content that relates to the points above and if you receive any potential client questions. If your followers aren’t sure on your business they will not invest! Step Five: Sales

Finally, the main reason you are marketing yourself and your business online is to sell, that’s why I want to quickly share some of the Do’s and Don’ts to selling online.

∙ Don’t wing it, set goals ∙ Don’t be fake, show authenticity ∙ Don’t just sell, add value ∙ Don’t spam messages, and listen!

To monitor the success of the selling element of your social media strategy you can track many areas of your profile, not just the physical sales. Make sure to consider the conversations and leads you generate, if they have converted – even better! If not, spend time considering why they didn’t invest so that you can develop upon your strategy and improve conversion rate. To Conclude…

A social media strategy is a must have for entrepreneurs if you want to market yourself and your business online successfully. You should ensure to summarise everything you plan to do and hope to achieve online so that you can monitor if you are on the path to reaching your goals or need to adapt your strategy to achieve desired results.
